Welcome to Letters to Tomorrow—a digital legacy I'm creating for my children and a space to share our family's journey through parenthood, technology, and life's many lessons.
I remember the moment clearly. It was my son's first birthday, and amid the celebration, a thought struck me—he won't remember any of this. The countless nights we stayed awake together, his first smile, the way his tiny hand wrapped around my finger—all these precious memories would exist only in my mind, not his.
That night, I wrote him a letter. I poured my heart onto the page—favorite memories from his first year, a life lesson I hoped would serve him well, and thoughts about a book that had shaped my thinking. I created an email address for him and scheduled the letter to arrive when he becomes a teenager, a bridge connecting his past to his future self.
Why? Because I know the teenage years can be complicated. The connection between parent and child often stretches thin as they forge their own identity. I wanted him to have tangible proof of my love from the very beginning, something he could hold onto during those inevitable moments when we might struggle to understand each other.
Then came our second son, and with his first birthday, another letter. But something shifted in me. Why limit these messages to once a year? Why not create something more enduring, more comprehensive? Life is unpredictable, and while modern medicine continues to extend our lifespans, we remain mortal beings with an expiration date.
This blog is my answer to that reality—a living legacy for my children.
More Than Just Memories
After 12+ years in tech, travels across 12+ countries and 30+ states, experiences as an angel investor, and holding a Portuguese Golden Visa, I've collected perspectives and lessons that feel worth preserving. But more valuable than any professional achievement are the lessons I've learned as a son, brother, husband, and father.
I'm naturally private, even shy. Human interactions have never been my comfort zone. Yet here I am, starting a public blog—because I believe in its purpose deeply enough to push beyond my comfort zone.
My wife shares this vision. Together, we hope to create not just an archive of memories, but a handbook of life learnings that might guide our children when they face their own challenges. Perhaps someday this might evolve into a podcast, expanding to include the wisdom of friends and family who have touched our lives.
Preparing for Their Future
As parents to Generation Alpha children, we constantly consider what skills they'll need for a fulfilling life. By the time they reach their twenties, nearly two decades from now, I believe most of the world will operate within a creator economy. They'll likely need to create products, content, or services to thrive.
By embarking on this journey now, I'm not just preserving our family story—I'm learning the skills I'll need to guide them in that future world.
A Journey of Growth
I am nowhere near being a good writer and neither am I a content creator, but this blog gives me an opportunity to embrace the new AI world and experience its benefits firsthand. As I navigate this learning curve, I'll share the tools I'm using along the way—perhaps saving you some time if you're on a similar path.
At my core, I'm a simple, humble, imperfect human being navigating this world by practicing resilience, gratefulness, an open mind, and an appetite to continuously learn and become a better version of myself every day. These values guide how I parent, work, and move through life.
I hope our experiences will resonate with you and help you understand that you're not alone in whatever it is that you're going through. The challenges of parenting, balancing career ambitions with family life, and preparing children for an uncertain future are universal, even if our specific circumstances differ.
This is my "Hello World"—the first line of code in what I hope becomes a meaningful program running throughout their lives. A collection of letters to tomorrow, written today, carrying our love, wisdom, and stories forward in time.
What memories and lessons do you wish had been preserved from your childhood? I'd love to hear your thoughts as we begin this journey.
